Q:

Machine capacity 11081878110 Kenmore Automatic washer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

Unfortunately, due to the age of these units, we do not have any literature or resources that mentions the cu/ft. capacity. You will need to take some measurements of the tubs and make a few calculations to get the capacities. To do so, I have provided a few articles below to help you out.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

grinding noise when dryer is running 11087878100 Kenmore Dryer

A:

Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when the dryer is making a grinding noise while running.

Glad to help out.  I’m looking at your Kenmore Dryer model number 11087878100.

The drum turns so that is good.   At least it most likely isn't the bearing.  There are a few possibilities.

Could be the rollers.   If so would advise you to get the dryer maintenance kit.  Has the rollers, with the hardware, the new pulley, belt, and comes with instructions.   The kit for this dryer is #4392065.
When the rollers go bad, it makes a thumping or grinding noise because the rubber wears out off the rollers.

The other item on the dryer to look at is the front ring bearing or the rear drum seal wearring out.   The front ring bearing is #3394509, and the rear drum seal is #239087.

Please "RESUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS IF THERE IS ANY OTHER PROBLEMS".

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs.  Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com.

I did some extensive research but did not find a replacement part that will work. The original lens cover part does not appear to be available from alternative parts sources. A web search did not reveal any used lens covers available.

Covering that opening with plastic is probably not a good idea. The plastic would have to be a high temperature type of material otherwise it could melt. The only way that I can image covering the opening would be to remove the socket and cover the opening with thin metal. With the socket removed, you could probably screw or bolt a piece of metal into place over the opening.

I hope that this general information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and we will try to help you further.

Thank you so much Lyle. I really appreciate the time and effort ! A bummer that there isn't an easy answer. I may try the metal cover idea, but would need to fashion something that has no sharp edges that the clothes could catch onto (eg: slip between the cover and the drum, or the edge of the metal). I presume I could use appropriate screws that would work with metal to metal without needing a nut underneath ?

You are correct. Even using metal, this will be a difficult task. The edges will have to be smooth and you will probably need to use screws with round heads. Any metal spurs or rough spots could snag garments in the dryer. If you can cover the opening, I recommend that you check for rough spots or spurs using a pair of old nylon hose (like pantyhose). Rub the hose over the cover and see if you get snags. If you do, then that area will need to be smoothed out. This may not be an easy fix unless you can find materials that will work and have the tools needed to work the metal.
