Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

If the dryer igniter stays on the radiant sensor is faulty and should be replaced.  Here is a link for the sensor.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the gas burner or the burner igniter is coming on when the start button is pushed; this symptom likely indicates a faulty motor. You did not state if the motor will hum or not when start is pushed. There is one thing you could try short of replacing the motor. Open the door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW) for a few revolutions. Next, locate the door switch actuator just above the drum opening and push the actuator in and hold it in. Set the timer and begin rotating the drum counter clockwise and have someone push the start switch to see if the motor will start. Be sure to remove your hand as soon as it starts. If it starts and runs, let it run for 30 seconds or so and then release the door switch. Shut the door and then see if will restart. If the motor hums instead of starting, I suspect the motor is faulty and the motor will need to be replaced. The burning odor is likely the glow bar igniter coming on and if you leave it on too long the burner will likely come on. The lower access panel below the door is removable. The video below will show you how. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing the dryer.

I added a video showing how to access the motor if you feel confident in doing so.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Why did my Kenmore gas dryer stop heating?

A:

In order to determine why your dryer stopped heating, a few checks will need to be made with a meter. If the igniter is not coming on, we need to know if it is getting 120 volts or not. Several tests will need to be performed to find the root cause of why your dryer stopped heating. If you have a meter & some basic tools please resubmit your updated question so we can walk you through some checks.
