Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Lady Kenmore dryer start?

A:

Here are some troubleshooting tips that may help:

  • Check the electrical outlet to make sure that is is working properly. I recommend plugging a small appliance into it to see if it is working.
  • Open the door and see if the drum lamp is working. If the drum light does not work and the outlet is good, you could have a blown thermal fuse in the dryer. To check this fuse, follow these steps:
    • Unplug the dryer to disconnect electrical power.
    • Shut off the gas supply to the dryer.
    • Remove the back panel of the dryer.
    • The thermal fuse is located on the blower housing. It is Key 39 on the image below. Pull the wires off of this fuse. Using a volt/ohm meter, measure the resistance across the leads of the fuse. You should measure near zero ohms (closed) of resistance if the fuse is good. If you measure infinite resistance (open), then the fuse is blown and will need to be replaced. You can order a replacement fuse from the Sears PartsDirect website www.searspartsdirect.com . The part number is 3392519.
  • If the drum light does illuminate, you could have a failed timer contact, a wiring problem or a bad drive motor that is preventing your dryer from running.
If you need more help diagnosing and repairing this failure, resubmit your question with additional details.
