After watching the gas burner assembly cycle on and off for a while (while the clothes tumble but don't dry) it seems that the problem is most likely the gas valve/solenoid. Based on my parts list, there are two: a two-lead Kenmore # 694540) and a three lead valve (Kenmore part# 694539). Question 1: Is it likely that the solenoid is the problem and needs to be replaced? Question 2: Does this look like a good replacement: http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=b6i3479&PartID=3479 Question 3: If this is correct, how does one replace these solenoids? Should I remove the entire burner assembly (after disconnecting the electrical power and shutting off the gas), pull out the old ones and replace with the new ones? Thanks!

Based on your symptom and details you will need to replace both solenoid coils on the gas valve assembly. You can order the coil kit part#279834 at Sears Parts Direct . You will need to disconnect the power cord and remove the lower front access panel (key#56) below the door in order to access and replace the solenoid coils (key# 71&72). See image below. You will not have to remove the gas valve assembly or turn off the gas. The coils can be removed and replaced without removing the gas valve assembly.

Dear Joey S, Thanks very much for your advice. I replaced the valves and now the system works. I ordered the replacement valves from www.repairclinic.com: Item#: 3479 Description: Gas valve solenoid coil kit, 2 and 3 wire, new style Price: $20.50 I would like to say how great it is that, as with the original valves, the parts are engineered to fit only with the correct orientation. It makes it nearly impossible to install them incorrectly. In the background, an explosion is heard....Just kidding. David1997

Q:

How do I wire up the new replacement timer for my Kenmore dryer?

A:

I was unable to find any wiring information for the replacement timer that you are referring to. Most subbed parts will come with some kind of instructions on replacement if the wiring has to be changed. We will need to know what wires on the replacement timer are not the same as what’s on the original timer. Please provide us with locations & colors of the wires in question.
