Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Kenmore dryer keep running even though it starts?

A:

You could have a problem with the door switch that would prevent the dryer from running. Make sure that the dryer door is not popping open during the cycle. You can check the door switch for a loose wiring connection by unplugging the dryer and following these steps:

  • Remove the lint screen from the housing in the top panel of the dryer.
  • Remove the two screws that secure the top panel to the lint screen housing.
  • Push a putty knife into the gap between the top panel and the front panel about 4" in from each side of the dryer to release clips and lift the top panel up.
  • Hinge the top panel up and back to rest it securely on the back wall behind the dryer.
This will give you access to check the wiring on the door switch.

If the wiring on the door switch is okay, then I recommend calling a service technician to check the dryer. You could have a problem with the door switch even though the wiring is okay. You could also have a failed timer, a motor problem or a wiring failure that is preventing your dryer from continuing to run.
