Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my gas dryer start when I press the button?

A:

See if the light goes off when you press the switch for the door. If the light stays on, then you have a broken door switch. This would prevent the dryer from starting on most models of gas dryers. Even if the light does turn off, you could still have a problem with the door switch such as a wiring failure.

Some gas dryers have a belt switch that would prevent the motor from running if the drive belt is broken. Unplug the dryer and check the belt if you are able to safely open the cabinet.

Without a model number, I am not able to offer much more advice than this. If you need more help, resubmit your question with the full model number of your dryer and additional details.

You can view a parts schematic on this page: Kenmore Commercial Dryer Model 110.86407110 Parts . I did not find a wiring diagram available for that older model. There may be one inside the dryer. The part number for the wiring diagram is LIT3388873. That part which would be the paper hard copy of the wiring diagram is no longer available as a replacement part. I did not find an electronic copy of that wiring diagram in our archives. If you need help diagnosing and repairing a failure, let us know and we will try to assist you.

I found a wiring diagram for a similar model of commercial dryer. That wiring diagram should match most of the components in your dryer. It is posted in the image below.

I did not find a wiring diagram for that exact model 110.86407110. I did find one for the similar model 110.86407120. That wiring diagram is shown in the image below with the motor circuit traced in blue. That motor circuit in your dryer will probably be the same. A failed door switch would prevent the dryer from running. A blown thermal fuse, a bad push-to-start switch, a failed drive motor, a bad timer switch or a wiring failure in that motor circuit could also prevent the dryer from running.

Dezeray provided a link to the parts diagram for that dryer in the above response.

This dryer appears to have a door switch that is at the top of the dryer door. You can unplug the dryer and check that door switch. The second image below shows some basic access information for a dryer that is similar to yours. You may have some fasteners or security components on that coin box that would prevent the door from being lifted. If that lid switch is broken, then you can order a replacement part from the link that Dezeray provided in the above response.

If the door switch is okay, I recommend that you check the thermal fuse and the push-to-start switch. If you need help checking those components, let us know and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
