Trouble is after wash cycle is finished, it will NOT FILL WITH WATER in spin cycle, therefore it does't advance? When I manually turn dial to wash cycle to let it fill with water, then manually turn it to spin cycle it will drain and spin. I NEED TO KNOW , if it might be because I may have accidently put the cold water hose on the hot water hose and vive versa on the INSIDE of the washer , when I checked for leaks on the INSIDE of cabinet ? Bottom line, IF I switch the hoses back, will the washer advance and fill???????? Thanks, Diane This Message is for MARK T.

Thank you for your question.

Hi Diane, I am sorry to hear you are having a problem with the washer again. I should be able to assist you with this repair also. So it sounds like the washer has to problems. We will diagnose the timer not advancing first. The reason is if it is a defective timer, it could also cause the washer not to fill. To check the timer, unplug the washer from the wall. Then gain access to the timer area. We will be checking the two black wires going to the timer motor. The checks will require a volt ohmmeter because we need to check live voltage. If you do not feel confident checking live voltage please do not attempt them. If you do not have a meter, you can purchase a cheap one at Sears or any large retail store. When ready turn the meter to check AC voltage and turn the timer to spin. Place the meter leads on the two wires for the timer motor and have someone plug the washer in. you should have a reading of at least 108 volts when the washer is spinning. If you have the voltage and the timer will not advance, I recommend replacing the timer.

I hope this is helpful. If you are not clear on any of the information I have given you please feel free to reply below.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. By what you have stated I suspect the clutch is worn. When the washer is in a spin cycle the motor turns the transmission. Then the transmission turns the clutch on the top of the transmission. When the clutch turns, it hit the brake release on the basket drive. This is what you are feeling when you turn the shaft by hand. If the clutch is worn, the basket will take a long time to come up to speed and will not spin the clothes as well as it should. The part number for the clutch is 285785 and can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

I have found a video that will show you how to replace the clutch on a larger model. The instructions are the same except for taken it apart to access the motor area. Please click here to watch the video.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair of the washer.

Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

This has nothing to do with prior question. I would like and prefer that Mark T. answer my question please. Washer won't Advance in spin mode? To: Mark T. Hi Mark T., my Kenmore portable washer #11084870810 works in wash cycle, but will not advance in spin cycle? When I put my washer in wash mode it works fine, so I tried after clothes washed to manually turn selector to spin cycle to see if drain and spin worked. It did! Only Problem is won't advance after wash cycle, and WILL NOT FILL WITH WATER? About a month or so ago I had to replace my water pump again. During this process I checked my hoses inside the machine for leaks. There were none. When I reattached my hoses, its possible I put the hot water hose on the cold water hose and vice versa? (I don't remember WHY I took them off, other than to get every thing out of the wayto get to the clutch again)? It was completely unnessary, made morework for myself than I had too when I discovered it was the pump! I saw on u-tube that if you connected the hoses wrong, the timer won't advance. Is that true? One of the guys that answers the phones told me that it sounded like the timer or the lid button switch. Please help Mark, I put my finger down on the lid button after I put washer in fill mode in spin cycle, still no water coming out? Help PLEASE, Diane P.S. You helped me put a clutch in my washer April 16, 2011. You were GREAT!
