Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know why the dispenser if different.

The dispenser #9 in the illustration has two incoming hoses. One for the bleach container and the other one is for the fabric softener. The inside of the container has two towers that the insert fits over.

We believe that this hole was a vent hole for the container and has no other function.

If this hole should not be very big and if it is leaking water as you say I would suggest that you put a small dab of silicone over the hole to see if that will stop the water leak. I also do not know of any plug for that hole.

I only have the original part here to look at.

Let me know if the silicone sealer works for you.

Thank you for your question.

Actually the passageway built into the dispenser between the hose connection and the dispenser was almost completely plugged with gelled conditioner. I used a turkey baster to squirt hot water into it until no more gel came out and the problem was solved.

Thank you for the update on your washer. That is great that you got the dispenser port cleaned out. This is not uncommon a problem with fabric softener dispensers. Thank you again, for letting us know how you fixed your problem. Sam A.

Q:

Why is my washer making a grinding noise when water is draining and during the spin cycle?

A:

From what you’re describing I suspect the pump. The pump is directly driven by the motor & is always on as long as the motor is on. During the neutral drain only the pump & motor are turning. Another possibility is the motor. I also suspect that the pump is leaking water on the floor.
