Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom it does sound like a faulty water inlet valve on the washer. If the water does not stop entering the washer by pushing the timer knob inwards or by disconnecting the power cord and you have to turn the water supply off then the water inlet valve assembly will need to be replaced.

The water inlet valve needed for your model washer is part #285805. You can order the water inlet valve at Sears PartsDirect .

In order to access and replace the water inlet valve you will need to disconnect the power cord, turn the water supply off and remove the hot and cold fill hose from the back of the washer. The washer cabinet must be taken off the base in order to access the water inlet valve. I added a YouTube video showing how to access and replace the water inlet valve .
