Thank you for your question. It is upsetting when the clothes on delicate get too much heat.  The first image below will show the average operating temperatures for a gas dryer. When the dryer overheats during any cycle, it is often due to a blocked vent or lint buildup. I recommend unplugging the dryer, then making sure there is no lint buildup inside the dryer (a vacuum helps) or anywhere along the vent system.  Make sure the vents are not crimped or damaged and the damper is open. Gas dryers are especially susceptible to restricted vents. If you would like to check the actual temperatures for your dryer, the best way to check the temperatures is with a thermostat in the exhaust With a medium load of clothes and with the exhaust vent pulled completely off, put a thermostat in the exhaust. Run the dryer with the vent off for this test but do not continue to run the dryer with the vent off. Let the dryer cycle the heat on and off a few times to get an average temperature.

On high temp the temperature will reach about 160 degree before it cycles off. This is a mechanical thermostat rated at 150 degrees that has a range of plus or minus 5 degrees so the readings can vary a bit. The lower temperature will cycle off around 135 degrees. There is only a 15 to 20 degree difference between high temperatures and low temperatures.

If the dryer is overheating, this may be a operating thermostat failure.  The operating (cycling) thermostat may have failed, causing the heating element to stay on or the heating element may have shorted and is not shutting off.

Remove the back of the dryer to access. The second image below will help. The third image shows where these are in the electric circuit.  Parts can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct. If you are not comfortable making these checks and repairs, you can schedule a technician at Sears Home Services.  If further assistance is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
