Q:

dryer starts then stops shows error f 40 11078062801 Kenmore Elite Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct.com. I appreciate you being a valued customer and I will be happy to assist with your dryer. Upon researching model 11078062801, I found f40 means there is a communication error between the main board and the motor control board.  First just check the wires to make sure there in the plug securely. Check to make sure there is nothing blocking the blower motor from spinning. If the blower motor is clear then there is two parts it could be the blower motor or the electronic motor control. I posted a picture on testing the blower motor and board.

Click here for diagram. Number 6 is board.

Click here for diagram. Number 27 is motor.

If you have any further questions please re-post. Thank you for choosing Sears. Have a great day.

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore model number 110.78062801.

In helping with your dryer.  The first thing to let everyone know is that they must first check there lint screen.  Pull it out and make sure the vent the screen goes into is not plugged.   Next check the vent area where it goes outside the house.   A dryer has to have a free movement of air to prevent heating problems and fire hazzards.

On the dryer when it isn't lighting and you don't hear the clicking sound, I know you need an ignitor.   While changing the ignitor there is the coils also to look at.   Feel them to make sure there is no burnt mark or scratches on either.  Most times it is very wise to just go ahead and change both of them to do at one time and have like a new dryer with heat going again.   When you have troubles with the dryer it is very wise also to test out you thermal fuse which is behind the blowe.   When something goes wrong on a dryer, often times it blows that fuse.   Just something to take a look at and be prepared.
