Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The glow bar igniter will come and glow until the flame sensor opens at which time the gas valve opens and the burner ignites. Once the flame sensor opens, the igniter will fade off and remain off until the operating thermostat closes and calls for heat again.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Awesome. Thanks for the information. I am curious as to why the laundry room, which is vented, stays so hot. I was hoping to learn there was a constant light, but I am learning that is "old school". HA.

The parts image for the portion of the dryer that includes the door assembly is shown in the image below. You symptoms indicate that one or both of the door springs (Key 22) is broken or disconnected. You can unplug the dryer and remove the bottom front service panel (Key 45) as shown in the second image below. Check to see if you can reattach the springs. If they are broken, you can order replacement parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Use your full model number (110.77960110) to access the parts list diagram similar to the first image below and order the correct parts.

Once you replace the springs, the door may stay closed properly and the dryer may stay running during the cycle. If you have door hinge or a door switch problem, you may need to further disassemble the dryer. The third image shows how to remove the front panel on this type of dryer. Your dryer is slightly different than the one shown but the basic procedure should still be the same. This will help you if you need to perform more repair work on the dryer.

If you need more help, submit additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
