Question and Answers

Q:

My dryer wont start and I would like to know what needs to be fixed 11076912693 Kenmore Gas dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the gas dryer.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Gas Dryer model number  11076912693 and seeing that it won't start.

First thing for safety and concerns to keep dryer running well is to check the lint screen and vent of air flow going out of the house.   If clogged up it could cause heating problems on any dryer.

To prevent a Blocked Vent Hood, once a year:

1.  Clean any lint blockage from the exhaust vent hood.
2.  Make sure the vent hood flappers move freely.
3.  Check for screen/grate openings that allow bird or rodent nests.
4.  Replace exhaust vent hood if damaged.
5.  Check for good air flow while running the dryer.
Note: Poor airflow or decreased airflow indicates further vent system cleaning is needed.

I see you have tested the thermal fuse which is usually part of the cause and effect.   The next thing to do is make sure the door is fully closed.

I would check with a multi meter the lid switch of the dryer.

The motor has a start switch on it that could be the problem.  You will need to lift the idler pulley to close the switch so that the motor will run during a test.

Use extreme caution when testing that motor with internal components exposed. Do not make contact with live wires or components when the dryer is plugged in with internal components exposed  MAKE SURE DRYER IS UNPLUGGED.

The next step is to check the timer control.  You can also check that out with a multi-meter.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The model number you provided is not a valid model number. I will assume the model number is 110.76912693 and if it is, I added a link to the Owner's Manual and Installation Instructions.

The door can pop open and shut the dryer off if it as weak or broken door catch. If the door hinges are bent or if the screws located under the bottom of the door are loose, the door can pop open with the slightest pressure.

At the top of the inner door panel is female catch and on the front panel above the drum opening is a male door strike. If the female door catch is weak or broken, I suggest replacing both, door catch and door strike.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

I all ready replaced latch. : ) this model has a lever arm(?) on the top left of the door frame, It does not show up on the specs. the dryer runs for a time then beeps the the door pops open. Looks like this lever arm(?) pops it open. I think it may have something to do with it getting too hot? maybe. the exhaust duct is very clean, newly replaces with hard pipe. i checked all around drum... cleaned up some lint...not much. Not sure what to do next.

David: I not aware of any model dryer have a lever/arm. Do you think you could be looking at the door switch? It will have lever on the door switch which the door will strike and close or the dryer will not start. If the door pops open, it will cause the door switch to break the circuit and shut off the dryer. Does the door appear to be in bind when it's shut? If so, it may have bent door hinges or the screws under the bottom of the door is loose which can cause the inner door panel to bind and possibly cause the door to pop open and shut the dryer off. The door should latch well when shut and it should take some effort to pull in open or the door can pop open during operation,

More detailed... the hinges were accidentally bend as the door folds down. My son slipped and leaned onto the door pushing it beyond its limit and causing the hinges to bend out. To get to the hinges I took the top and front apart, in doing so I disconnected the 4 wires white, blue, black and brown (not harnessed) that go to what seems like the door switch and light. I don't remember the which terminal each wire went.

Hello Carlos,

I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with the wiring on your dryer and I would like to assist you.  I have attached a wiring diagram that shows the connections for your dryer.  For the brown wire, compare your old switch with the new one for the position.  The white wire goes to the COM connector that is by itself.  You will have to find the wire that goes to your drum light and verify it's connection and then verify the blue, which I think is the one referred to as the violet.  Reply back with where the extra wire runs to and I'll be happy to assist you further.
