Q:

Kenmore dryer does not relight

A:

Thank you for submitting your question. I understand your concern and I will be happy to assist you. Based off of your description, the issue you're experiencing could be with the gas coils (kit 279834) or gas valve (8318277). If the ignitor is glowing then there is power. When the ignitor clicks off then the voltage that was powering the ignitor is directed to the gas coils to open the valve. Listen for a hum, buzz or vibration from the coils when the ignitor clicks off. If you notice a hum or buzz then the coils are likely okay and the valve is the problem. The gas is likely there it is just not being released by the valve. Here is a great troubleshooting repair video that will assist you with determining the issue as well. You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

From the description you give I suspect the problem is with the gas coils or gas valve. It can be difficult to verify which is at fault. If it works one out of ten times I suspect the valve. The coils usually work or not. The 279834 coil kit comes with both coils for about $24 dollars. The 8318277 valve cost about $110 dollars. Most people would try the coils first. The image below shows how to remove the front panel to access the valve. Remember to unplug the dryer first. Both parts can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .
