Thank you for your question.

I can understand you wondering why the filter does not catch all the lint.

Lint filters on dryers are not designed to catch all the lint. It will recover most of the lint but some of the filter particles will get through the filter.

If they built the lint filter catch very fine particles it would restrict the air flow and reduce drying efficiency.

To make sure that you are getting all the lint it is designed to catch, make sure the seals around the filter are intact and not torn and the filter screen material does not have any holes that are torn in the screen material.

Make sure the the filter is slid all the way down into the slot on the top of the dryer.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thanks for answering my concern. But, some of the stuff getting through is rather large. Are the seals on the filter itself or in the chute? Would hate to by new filter if the seals are not on it. I have examined the filter, there are no holes or tears in it..

Thank you for the update on your filter. Yes the seals are on the filter. I would suggest that you check to see if there is any build up in the slots at the bottom of the filter chute. As you pull the filter out to clean it, some of the lint will roll back down the chute and collect at the bottom of the slide grooves and will hold the bottom of the filter up just enough to let some the lint that fell down get blown outside. I would not be too concerned as it does not affect the operation of the dryer. Sam A.

My kenmore dryer leaks so much lint that as it is blown outside right where I have gravel I have a solid thick coating over the gravel. I have purchased a new lint filter at the Sears service center twice, making sure I gave them the correct model and serial numbers and that they looked the part number up even though they new just which one I needed. No improvement. A comment to Sam's suggestion that one should not be too concerned as it does not affect the operation of the dryer...It makes a constant mess to clean up outside not to mention lint everywhere, really, everywhere in the laundry room. Not such an insignificant problem. I will definitely check to see if lint has built up at the bottom of the slide chutes holding up the filter. Thanks for the suggestion. Oh yes, how do I access the bottom of the slide chutes? Thanks for you help.

I am sorry that you are having so much lint leaking out of the dryer. Usually there is some leakage which is normal, but sounds excessive. The only thing I can think of is that the lint filter is not seating properly at the bottom of the lint chute. I have given you a link to a cleaner kit to help in cleaning out the chute. Sam A.
