Q:

Why does my Kenmore dryer model 76431400 make a grinding sound during the cycle?

A:

You will need to unplug the dryer and open up the top of the cabinet as shown in the first image below to determine the cause of the grinding noise. You could have a problem with one of the support rollers, the drum seals or the idler pulley. Once you open the top, turn the drum manually and see if you can determine the origin of the noise. I provided additional information on further disassembly of the dryer in the second and third images. NOTE: The dryer shown below is slightly different than yours but the diassembly procedures are the same.
