Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore Elite gas dryer doesn't always start.

A:

Having a properly working dryer is important. The problem with the dryer not starting can be very frustrating. I did some research on your model number but was not able to find a solution for the dryer not starting. Your expert will also help answer your question. It may take two business days for your expert to reply. If you would like to look into Sears doing the repair here is a link for Sears Home Services. I do hope that everything works out on the dryer.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the dryer will consistently start at the 60 minute time dry cycle and not consistently start on any other cycles or areas on the timer, I would suspect a faulty timer. The timer for Kenmore dryer model 110.75962400 is part#3976576 which can be ordered from Searspartsdirec.com

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Should the wires connecting the timer be hard to remove. I can not seem to disconnect them.

Sharon: The wires are supposed to fit tight. You may need to get a pair of needle nose pliers and grip the top of the female connector to pull the female connector from the male terminals. DO NOT pull on the wire; pull only by the female spade. You can also likely use a flat blade screwdriver to pry up and remove the female spade connector.

There is no pilot light on this dryer but what it does have is an ignitor. This glows very brightly when it gets hot and this is what lights the flame when the gas is released.

If the ignitor does not glow then the reason is usually a bad thermal fuse. Since there was water then I suspect the ignitor is bad.

The image below will show how to access the ignitor and thermal fuse. Remember to unplug the washer first.

First thing to do is to remove the lower access panel and see if the ignitor glows when the dryer is started.

If the ignitor glows but there is no flame then the problem will be with one of the coils or valve.

You will need a meter to check resistance on the ignitor and thermal fuse.

Thanks for the question and you can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.
