Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. There could be one of two possible failures preventing the drum light from coming on when the door is opened. It could have a faulty door switch or loose wire connection or the base of the bulb is not making contact with center terminal of the light socket. Unplug the power cord and remove the light bulb. Reach into the light socket and bend the center contact out just a little and then reinstall the light bulb. Plug the dryer in and see if the light comes on when you open the door. If the light does not come on, the door switch is likely faulty.

In order to test the door switch operation, the top must be taken off. It will require disconnecting the door switch harness connector and testing for continuity across the White and Brown wire with the door open. There ohm meter should measure continuity across the White and Brown wire. If it does not measure continuity, replace the door switch.

To remove the top:

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  2. Remove the left and right hand end cap covers located on each front corners. See image below.
  3. Remove the screw located at the bottom of each end cap.
  4. Lift the console up and hinge it over the back panel.
  5. Remove the three screws securing the top panel to the rear panel that you see on the main top which were hidden under the console.
  6. Slide the top forwards and lift it off.
  7. Locate the lid switch harness located near the top of the left side panel and disconnect the harness connector.
  8. With the door open, test for continuity across the White and Brown wires.

The door switch assembly is part #3406107 and can be ordered from Sears Parts Direct .
