Q:

The burner will not light up. 11072084101 Kenmore Gas dryer

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dryer not lighting up.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore model number 110.72084101

In helping with your dryer.  The first thing to let everyone know is that they must first check there lint screen.  Pull it out and make sure the vent the screen goes into is not plugged.   Next check the vent area where it goes outside the house.   A dryer has to have a free movement of air to prevent heating problems and fire hazzards.

On your gas dryer, there are 2 things to look at first and they are right side by side to each other.   That is the ignitor and the Coil kit.   There are 2 coils on the gas valve.  Do you hear the click when you try to start the dryer, does it come on quickly with a bright red flame.   If not then you will need the ignitor. but would advise you to look at the coils also.

I received the information on my Kenmore model 110.72084101. While reading about the glow bar ignitor, you show two part numbers #279311 and #6896590 are these parts interchangeable? If not which p/n should I order? Thank you.

I installed the new ignitor and coil kit and started the dryer. There was no clicking sound and my dryer still wasn't heating. The lint screen is cleaned as well as the exhaust piping from the unit to the outside duct work. I've check if the gas was restricted but it's cleaned. Please advise. I also have the thermal fuse but I don't know where to install it.

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

Hello Abraham,

The ignitor is usually the cause and effect of that clicking noise.  May have to check the wire and make sure it is getting a good connection.

The thermal fuse being blown may have a problem with this also.  The thermal fuse is right behind the blower on the back end of the dryer.   I have the link below to show you its location.  It is key number  59.

Q:

What portions of the model number matter?

A:

I know how important it is to have as much useful information about your appliance as possible so that it is easier to find replacement parts and part numbers. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your model number and the owners manual from the Manage My Life website. Hope this helps!

That's the same link that I posted on my original question. I have a model 110.74082201. The web site shows this particular manual applying for 11072082101, 11074084200 and 11074082200 (and others) One model ends in 2101 instead of 2201. One model ends in 84200 instead of 82201. One model ends in 2200 instead of 2201. The manual seems close, but I'm not sure...

Hi John,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

The first 5 digits after the "110." are the ones that really matter as far as for the Owners' manual. The link you added is to an Owners' Manual for the same type of dryer.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Based on your symptom and details you need to remove and replace the two gas valve solenoid coils. Once the solenoids become hot with use they become weak and unable to open the gas valve. Order coil kit part number 279834 and it will consist of both solenoid coils. Replace both solenoid coils at the same time and your dryer will operate normally again. See images below for instructions.

You can order the solenoid kit at Sears Parts Direct . NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the lower access panel.
