Question and Answers

Q:

Is an overheated resistor R25 on the Even Heat control assembly of a Kenmore Elite gas dryer a common occurrence?

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working dryer in your home so that you can keep your clothes nice and dry. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you look in your owners manual for some troubleshooting tips. Below is a link in where you can enter your model number and your owners manual will pop up. I hope my link is useful.

Technicians are not privy to the ratings of the individual resistors on the control board so I can not help you with that problem.

I can tell you that there was a known issue with the resistor being rated to low. Starting with serial number MP47 the problem was corrected.

If you order a new control you will get the new and improved version.

You can get the updated control at the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

Thanks Fred, Judging from the resistor measured value, body size, and number of colored bands, I'd estimate it's a 5.36 Kohm 1/8 Watt 1% tolerance metal film part. But if someone had this board on hand, or even a clear close-up photo and could let me know the band colors, I could confirm my suspicions. A 1/4 Watt replacement is a 15 cent part, and well worth the labor of removal and replacement.

Thanks Fred, Your time & effort is appreciated. The picture of the board you found looks very similar, but some of the components have moved (so I'm guessing it's a newer revision of the same board?). When zooming in, the component reference designators get blurry, and I was unable to find R25. Is a larger or clearer picture available? Can you recommend a source for those images? Failing that, if anyone has a board (even a bad one of course), and could tell me the color and order of the painted bands on R25 (Many of you techs already know, so I don't want to imply otherwise), that color code denotes the resistor value & tolerance. For the benefit of others , if the color band order was green - brown - brown - brown - brown, that would indicate the part is a 5.11Kohm 1% tolerance resistor. Thanks again,
