Kenmore dryer #110.69732800 doesn't shut off/timer doesn't advance

A:

Dryer malfunctions can be complicated for most of us. If you are handy and can make the electrical checks, you can save yourself some money. I attached two links below with similar questions that may help while you wait for the expert. If you would feel more comfortable having an expert technician diagnose and make repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. You don't may clear if you've tried both automatic and timed dry.

If the timer will not advance in any cycle and particularly timed dry then I agree the timer is at fault.

If the timer never advanced only in the automatic cycle and worked okay in the timed cycle the timer might not be at fault.

The 8566184 timer is available from the following site: Sears PartsDirect for about $62.62 dollars.

We can assist you with accessing and changing the timer. See the image below for help accessing the timer.

Remember to unplug the dryer first.

You can reply with any additional details for further assistance.

A:

If the timer advanced all the way in the Time cycle then the timer is okay and the problem is likely the 8558178 electronic control board. The control board controls the timer in the Automatic cycle. You can obtain the control at the following link: ControlBoardSearsPartsDirect .

Brian I can help you with this problem but there are 3 styles of Kenmore dryers. A model number would be very helpful. The images below contain the 2 most common styles of Kenmore dryers and may be helpful to you. If neither image seems correct then reply with a model number for further assistance.

Thanks to Fred, the repair manuals are the kind of thing I am looking for but all I want to do is vent my electric Kenmore dryer, model 110.69732800, out the left side where there is a knock out in position. I was hoping that I would not have to take apart the entire machine to do that. Is there a way it can be done from the rear? Brian

You can most likely remove the knock out plug but to install the vent elbow I believe you will need to get into the machine. Remember to unplug the dryer first.

Thanks Fred, What is the best way to get into the machine? Some dryers make it easy to remove the back section of the cabinet but this one appears to be spot welded. Your repair manuals showed taking the guts out to accomplish this. Is there an easier way to access the 4" vent duct inside the cabinet?

This dryer is accessed from the front. The images above show how to do this. The front panel and drum will need to be removed. The good news is once you do this then you will know how to change the belt and access the motor if needed in the future. Remember to unplug the unit first.
