Q:

Kenmore Elite Dryer 110.66972500 dryer starts when press start but stops very quickly 110.66972500

A:

I further tested this evening and when I set the timer for about 10 minutes, opened/closed the door, started it, the dryer worked for about 1-2 minutes, then stopped. When I checked back after 10 minutes the timer dial was in the "off" position. So I assume this rules out the timer being the issue. Also, since it will start and run for a couple of minutes, I assume this rules out the door switch being the problem. And since it there is heat if I stand there and open/close the door and hit start (repeatedly opening/closing/hitting start for several minutes), I assume this rules out the heating element. ????

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Kenmore Elite dryer model 110.66972500. I am so sorry it keeps stopping after a few minutes. I will be happy to help you with this.

Based on the tests you have already completed, it sounds like the door catch is the issue. I have included the link below in case you need to order the part.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning your repair to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

If the catch is not the issue you can test the door switch before you replace it. To test the part, you will need to remove it. It is normally held in place by compression tabs. If these are worn or broken the vibration of the drum turning can cause the contact that activates the switch to slip, shutting the dryer off. If the tabs are fine, check the switch for any burn marks. Also check the wiring for damage. Carefully remove the wires from the terminals. Needle nose pliers work great for this. You can test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. When you first touch the probes to the terminals you should get an infinity reading. With the probes still in place, depress the switch button. You should now get a zero reading. The multimeter should return to infinity when you release the switch. Any other results than that indicates the switch is failing and needs to be replaced.  I have included that link for you also.

Do to the age of the dryer, I recommend you also clean the dryer vent system and the cabinet interior of any built up lint. Excess lint constricts the air flow which can cause the dryer to overheat. There are safety devices in the dryer that will shut it off it the temperature gets too high. Once the dryer cools sufficiently, it can be restarted, but will shut off again as the temperature starts to climb again. If the catch and the switch are both fine, the issue could be the air flow.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
