Question and Answers

Q:

heating element 11066922501 Kenmore Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about how to test the heating element in your Kenmore Dryer. I am so sorry you are having problems with the dryer. I will be happy to help you with this.

You can test the heating element with a multimeter. I will outline the steps for you.

SAFETY WARNING: Be sure to disconnect the power supply to the dryer to avoid the risk of electrical shock.

You will need to remove the heating element to test it. Be sure to inspect it for damaged or broken coils. If you see any damage, you need to replace the element. I recommend you also check the wiring to the element. Look for broken or frayed wiring, melted, burnt or scorch marks. Replace the element wire harness if you see any damage. If the element and the wiring look fine, you will need to check the element for continuity with a multimeter.

Start by calibrating the multimeter following the instructions that came with it. Using the probes from the meter, touch one probe to one of the terminals on the element and hold it there. Then touch the other probe to the opposite terminal on the element. A good element will move the needle to the far side of the meter. Little or no movement of the needle means the element has likely failed and needs to be replaced.

If you need step-by-step instructions, with photos, to complete this repair, I recommend you invest in a Do-It-Yourself Dryer Repair manual. I have included the link for you to order the manual.
