Why won't my dryer turn on after very wet clothes were put in by son?

The dryer not starting can keep you from drying your freshly washed clothes. I am adding a link below to help you with your question while you wait for your expert response.

Debra, Please follow these instructions . To replace the belt you will need to gain access to the inside of the cabinet. First disconnect electrical power to the dryer. Open the dryer door & remove the lint screen. Remove the end caps from the console by pulling them straight off. Remove the screws that go down at an angle securing the console to the top panel, one on each side. Lift the console up while pulling forward. Carefully swing the console up & over. Remove the 3 screws along the rear edge, holding the rear panel to the top panel. Slide the top panel forward to disengage the front lip, lift up & remove the top. Unplug the door switch from the harness. Use a putty knife to release the clips securing the toe panel, these are located on the top of the toe panel about 2-3 inches from each side. Now you will need to remove the 4 screws securing the front panel to each side panel, one on each side, top inside & bottom outside. Remove the front bulkhead by removing the 4 screws, one in each corner. You should now be able to slide the belt around the drum. Loop the belt around the motor pulley, groove side down & stretch the idler pulley spring allowing the belt flat side to rest against the pulley wheel. You will need to turn the drum clockwise to align the belt. Be careful of the sharp metal edges. Reassemble in reverse order.

John H. the same thing happened to me today. My dryer quit working after my son put soaking wet clothes in the dryer (they went back into washer to finish spinning). My dryer quit working in the process of him trying to dry them. What could be wrong or could I possibly do to try to fix this myself? My model # is LER7620LW0 - Whirlpool.

A:

Briana, I suspect water dripped on the motor. If there is no sign of life most likely the thermal fuse blew. You would have to unplug the dryer and remove the back. The thermal fuse can be checked with a multimeter. The image below will help you do this.

I understand how important it is to have all of your appliances working properly. The squeaking could be coming from the belt idler assembly or the drum support rollers. To determine the source of the squeak. This Dryer Rollers is how to replace the roller supporters but more importantly it shows how to disassemble your dryer. With the top hinged up and back, spin the drum to see if you can determine the source of the squeak. Once you determine the source of the squeak, you can replace the squeaking part. You can order parts from the Sears Parts Direct website. This should resolve your squeaking problem. If you do not feel confident repairing this yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
