It always made some noise and had some vibration, but recently is has become almost unbearable. I have checked it fo level and the machine itself does not vibrate; it is the tub iself.

Your symptoms point to a failure in the spin basket and/or the rear outer tub shell/bearing. Both of these parts have a limited parts warranty beyond the full one year full warranty of the washer. The stainless steel spin basket has a limited lifetime warranty. The plastic outer tube has a 10 year limited warranty. The parts are covered but you would need to pay for the labor of diagnosing and replacing the parts. The details of the warranty provisions are in your owner's manual. Here is a link for the owner's manual for your model in case you need it: Owner's Manual .

Here is a test that you can conduct that may verify that you have a problem with the spin basket and/or rear tub bearing:

  • Open the washer door.

  • With the washer empty and off, press up on the front, top rim of the stainless steel spin basket inside the tub. Check for upward play in relation to the outer tub.

  • Spin the basket a few degrees in one direction and check again for upward play.

  • Continue to check the spin basket for play around the entire 360 degrees.

If you encounter an area where you get significantly more upward play, then one of the support vanes on the back of the basket is likely broken. This type of failure should be covered by the parts warranty described above. I recommend that you schedule a Sears Technician to repair the washer in this situation. The labor charge will be around $130 in most areas. You can call Sears at 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME) for service or use this website: Sears Home Services .

Even if you do not detect upward play in the spin basket, your details still point to a bearing failure.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

It's funny how websites that are suppose to help you do the very opposite, every link that has been posted just leads to this web page. I guess I have to pay for the manual for the most reliable washer. Should have bought a Maytag. I see why the Maytag guy is bored their washers have better DIY support.

I have a question concerning my Kenmore Elite Front Loader HE3 which is 10 years old. I performed the bearing test which you recommened above. No play in the drum. However large pieces of plastic are coming off the front of the stainless drum. I have pics if you need them. But I am suspecting it may be the plastic outer tube which you refer to above. If so what is the part number and how do I fix it ? I tried of looking at sites that tell me how to rebalance a wash load.

Q:

Does a squeaky tub mean a major repair is needed? 11042822200 Kenmore Elite Automatic washer, compact a/w

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your washer. Upon researching model 11042822200; it could be the suspension is worn out. If it’s squeaky then it could be the inner drum rubbing the basket or the bearing is wearing out. I linked the diagram below. The shock absorber is number 23 and the springs are number 16. The bearing is part of the rear tub number 8.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.
