Q:

Washer won't drain or spin 11029012990 Kenmore Commerical automatic washer

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your washer and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 11029012990 and if you hear the drain pump running, but the washer is draining slowly, or not draining at all, you most likely have a clog or restriction. Take the drain pump hoses off and look as far into the pump as possible. Check the drain hoses for any type of clogs. Make sure the house drain is not draining slow. This could cause water to siphon back into the washer. If you do not find a restriction or clog, the drain pump may be damaged. I recommend replacing it.

If the washer will not agitate or spin but the motor is running, this would indicate a broken motor coupler. If the motor is not running while it is in the spin and drain cycles the likely failure is a broken lid switch. If the motor is running and the washer will agitate but the basket will not spin during the spin cycle could indicate a worn clutch, broken basket drive or a transmission failure.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others. Wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

A:

The most common reason a Kenmore washer will agitate but not drain or spin is a bad lid switch. There is a lid strike on the lid which should activate the lid switch when the lid is closed. The model number shows this to be a commercial washer. The lid switch is available from the following link: Kenmore washer 110.29012.990 lid switch . There is not much do-it-yourself information available for commercial washers. You will need to remove the top and cabinet to access the lid switch. Remember to unplug the washer first.
