I am not sure which part you are describing. Here is a video that shows hot to remove the motor and transmission from this type of washer to replace the clutch assembly: Washing Machine Clutch Replacement . You may see the part that you are asking about in that video. If not, send us a digital picture of the part and we will try to assist you further.

Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components.

Did you ever find out what/where the part "brass pin" belongs? Ironically, the exact same thing happendd to our Knmore washing machine this weekend! Our agitator was not moving and this washer is only 7 years old.
