Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Kenmore washer overflowing?

A:

On this type of symptom the problem could be caused by several different components. The water level switch is made to sense the pressure in the pressure hose connected to the air dome. The water valve should stop receiving voltage from the pressure switch when the preset water level is achieved. In order to check the water level switch you will need a meter; when contacts V to P on the water level switch open the water valve should stop filling. If the contacts are open & you still have water flowing in this could be caused by either a bad timer or water valve. You will need to check voltage at the water valve to confirm if the problem is the timer or not. If the water level switch contacts open & the water valve is not receiving 120volts & is still filling then we know the problem is a faulty water valve. If the water level switch contacts V to P stay closed after the preset water level is achieved then we know the problem is the pressure hose or air dome. This will require removing the cabinet to inspect the air dome, pressure hose & the outer tub. If you see water in the pressure hose then the problem is a bad outer tub/air dome. The air dome is part of the outer tub. If the pressure hose, air dome & water valve check good you will need to replace the water level switch.

Please see the images provided that explains how to access the cabinet & check the water level operation.

NOTE; on this model pull the console end caps off numbers 8 & 11 to access the screws that you will need to remove.
