Q:

stops during spin and then burning smell 11026712690 Kenmore Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing Searspartsdirect.com and being a valued member. I can certainly assist you.

I would jump the lid switch and  then measure the motor.

First step is to remove 2 screws from the console front. There should be one on each side and they will be under the plastic end cap covers that will pop off. Then the console will flip back on hinges.

Then you will see two large clips that you will need to pop out with a screwdriver. They attach the cabinet to the rear panel. You will also need to unplug the lid switch wires that are in the cabinet top. Then the whole cabinet should come off revealing the rest of the washer.

The pump unclips but don't remove the hoses or you will get water. Then there should be two screws that hold the motor retainers in place remove those and unplug the motor. Pop off the motor retainers and the motor should come off revealing the motor coupler. part #285753A.

Natasha12: Thank you for your suggestions. I've had the whole thing apart multiple times so I can get to the motor. I have replaced the motor coupling and jumped the lid switch both are which are now fine. But now it stops before emptying the water prior to the rinse cycle. Sits there and buzzes, although it sounds like it continues to click through the cycles. I have a multimeter and feel confident in using it. I see the chart above but not sure where to attach the meter leads and what cycle(s) to run the machine through. Basically I need you to explain the details of what you mean by measuring the motor. Thank you for your help.

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your washer. From what your describing I recommend replacing the agitate dogs. These are small clutches that only allow the auger to rotate in one direction. This is a common repair & very easy to replace. To replace the dogs please follow these steps.

  1. Remove the fabric softener dispenser from the top of the agitator.
  2. Remove the agitator cover by pulling it up.
  3. You should see a plastic piece that has a square hole in the center. You need to insert a 1/2 inch drive extension into the hole. Then turn it counter clockwise to remove this retainer.
  4. Remove the cam out of the top portion of the agitator and replace the dogs.
  5. Reassemble the washer in the reverse order and test the operation.
