I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your washer. From the description you give I suspect the timer might be the problem but there are some things to clear up. This washer has a "neutral drain" system. What this means is the washer should start to drain the water out first and then after most of the water drains out the timer gives a "pause" and then the washer starts to spin. If the washer drains but won't start to spin till the lid is open and closed or the timer is turned off and on then the problem is the timer is not pausing to allow the washer to come out of neutral drain. When you lift the lid you provide the pause to bring the unit out of neutral drain. From the information you provide I'd think about replacing the timer to fix this problem. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

One thing about the lid switch on this particular washer is that if it is bad then the washer motor will not run in the agitation cycle or the drain/spin cycle.

From the description you give the washer is not draining till you lift the lid.

From the information you provide I'd think about replacing the timer to fix this problem.

The 8541945 timer can be obtained from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

I hope this helps and thanks for the question.
