I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your washer. From what you are describing it sounds like either the transmission or motor couplings has failed. The clutch & basket drive are locked in position during agitation. Since you stated that this grinding noise happens in both agitate and spin this would indicate the noise you hear is the internal gears of the transmission not engaging or a stripped out motor coupling. I would recommend you calling a service technician to diagnose and repair. If you would like to schedule service, just click on this link: Sears Home Services. Q:

How to access the timer in order to remove and replace it?

A:

The console must be put in the service position in order to access the timer.

First, disconnect the power cord from the power source.

  1. Remove the left and right hand end cap trim (key#8&11) by lifting the top of the end cap trim up enough to clear the console and pivot the end cap trim towards you and off.
  2. Remove the screw at the bottom of each end cap once the end cap trim has been removed.
  3. Slide the console assembly towards you about 1/4 inch and then lift it up and hinge it over the rear panel.
  4. Look carefully on the back of the timer for any specific instructions on how to remove the knob.
  5. Remove the timer knob and screws and pull the timer out the back of the console.
  6. Disconnect the timer harness plug and remove timer.
  7. Reverse the procedure to re-install the timer and console.

Resubmit your question with additional details if needed for further assistance.
