Question and Answers

Q:

Why would my washing machine no longer spin while on the spin cycle?

A:

A washer is an appliance we depend on so much, when there's laundry to be done.  While you are waiting for an expert to respond, I have added a helpful link that may provide information to assist you with your question.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the washer will not agitate or spin but will drain, then I suspect the motor coupler is broken. The motor coupler is located between the back of the motor and the gear case.

I added a link to answer from a previous question with the procedure for accessing the motor coupler

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

I think the person is asking why once it goes to spin cycle it spins slow or not at all like a belt is worn out, but there isn't a belt on this mdel. mine is doing the same thing on spin cycle it either spins very slow or not at all depending on the size of the load. if I turn it by hand, I can get it to spin, but over the last several weeks its worse and worse. Does the drive clutch and brake part need to be replaced? my washer works 100% other than once to the spin cycle I hear the motor running and sounds normal, its just not moving like perhaps the clutch is worn out?? my unit is almost 12 years old..

the repair video here is very detailed. however the price of the part is way too high. you can find that part number much cheaper elsewhere. but it sure looks like a job replacing the clutch.. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-basket-drive-and-285792-ap3094539.html

Q:

Why Drum spins slow or not at all in spin cycle. 11024642300 Kenmore Automatic washer

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your washer. I assume that the washer is agitating okay. You did not indicate whether the washer will restart immediately after you encounter this problem. There is a chance that you have an intermittent wiring failure or a problem with the motor overheating. If the washer motor will not restart for a while after it stops (15 minutes to 1/2 hour), then the motor is likely overheating. Washing extremely large loads could cause this problem. Reduce the size of your laundry loads if this describes your situation. You could also have a problem with drive components that cause excessive friction and cause the motor overload. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. My washer is doing the same thing. I think the orginal poster is talking about when it goes to spin cycle its not spinning or spinning slow, then the clothes are still very wet. On mine if I help it spin I can get it to spin. it acts like the belt is worn out that spins the drum but there is no belt on this model. Does the drive clutch and brake part need to be replaced??
