Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. By what you have stated I suspect the problem is worn agitator dogs. When the dogs fail the bottom portion of the agitator will work fine but the top will not.

I have looked up the part number for the dogs are 80040 and they can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

To replace the dogs please follow these steps.

  1. Remove the fabric softener dispenser from the top of the agitator.
  2. Remove the agitator cover by pulling it up.
  3. You should see a plastic piece that has a square hole in the center. You need to insert a 1/2 inch drive extension into the hole. Then turn it counter clockwise to remove this retainer.
  4. Remove the cam out of the top portion of the agitator and replace the dogs.
  5. Reassemble the washer in the reverse order and test the operation.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for using Manage my life.
