Question and Answers

Q:

Washer will not drain or spin

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details, I suspect a fault electronic control board or loose wire connection in the start circuit. In order for the motor to start, it must have start voltage and run voltage. The start voltage circuit consists of the yellow and red wires. Check and make sure the start capacitor is connected. The start capacitor will have two red wires connected to it. If the capacitor is faulty, the motor will hum and not start unless helped by spinning the motor shaft. If the control board is not supplying the start voltage on the red or yellow, it will hum and not start. The motor reversed directions for agitate and spin and drain my reversing the polarity of the red and yellow wires at the control board.

If the drain pump was jammed, then it likely damaged the control board or motor. I added an image below of the wiring diagram if needed.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Joey, I checked the red capacitor wire and the voltage is good. But the yellow start wire is only 4.9 volts so I presume that the board is not sending enough voltage through to the motor to start the motor. Would you confirm my deductions? I just want to make sure that what I have come up with is logical thinking. Any help in this will be appreciated. Thanks - Gordon

A:

Gordon: If you're not measuring 120 volts across the red and yellow wires connected at P9 connector at the control board when in the drain and spin cycle, the control board is faulty.

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. After doing some research I wasn't able to locate any information on the size of the washer. This is most likely due to the age of the unit. Items manufactured before 2000 won't have much if any information available. The link provided above may assist in measuring and finding the size of the unit. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Feel free to visit Sears.com to compare washers.

Hi Reggie,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The F4 error is a recirculation pressure switch failure. This error code and its causes are explained on the tech sheet I included in my previous response. This document also contains the diagnostic testing procedures for your washer. Here is a link to your previous question; model # 110.22036100 code 50 and now no power kenmore . This particular washer does not have an error code containing 50. The "50" you saw was most likely the time display.

You will now need to check for;

  1. Plugged recirculation hose (black hose).
  2. Plugged or disconnected air tube (clear tube).
  3. Wires to the recirculation pressure switch disconnected or not connected correctly.
  4. Failed recirculation pressure switch. Switch (black wire, tan wire) contacts should be open with pressure applied and closed with no pressure.

I am including the disassembly instructions for this washer in the images below.Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please reply below and I will be happy to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.

After reading some Q & A's, i checked P5. Power was going into the board but no return on the white wire. I cleaned the contacts and the plug. Got the washer model # 110.22036100 working. I took the board out and cleaned all the contacts and plugs . It seems over time it gets poor contact. Thank you for your time and the paper work.
