Question and Answers

Q:

rattle sound 11020932994 Kenmore Washer

A:

See if the washer will agitate. If the motor runs but the washer will not agitate or spin even though it drains, then the motor coupler (part 285753A ) is probably broken. Here is a link for a previous answer that shows how to access and replace that part: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/215577-replace-motor-coupling-kenmore-washer-model-11021882001 .

If the washer agitates, then you likely have a broken basket drive or failed clutch. Reply with additional details if you need more help with this problem.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The description of your symptom is very unusual to occur without a fault code being displayed unless your model has a NO SPIN option that was selected. If no spin is selected it will do everything but spin.

I will need additional details of what the washer is doing after it drains. Is the main drive motor running when it should be spinning? I must assume it will fill and agitate and I must assume it will drain water. Usually if there is any type of failure it would stop and display an error code. Without being there to run tests and without having additional details I will not be able to suggest/recommend any parts.

I added a couple of images below with some theory of operation and a test procedure to run. You should be able to run the automatic diagnostic test and lay you hand on the lid to verify if it's spinning or not.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Reply with additional details after performing the automatic diagnostic test for further assistance if needed.

Jerry: I must assume the washer will agitate and it will drain water. Generally speaking if the washer will drain but not spin is usually related to the clutch, basket drive or gear case. I added the URL address of a YouTube video showing how to replace the clutch. The adddress is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVc6SZ2DD4U&feature=player_embedded

Edwin: You have a very unusual symptom. If the washer is not able to spin it should have displayed a fault code. I highly recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your Oasis washer.

Rather than call a service technician, I did some further inspection and found that the splines on the inner hub were worn causing it not to engage after the tub and drained and preventing basket from spinning after draining. New inner hub cost $7.97 (kit, which included outer hub). It was easy and cheap repair.

Hi Allen,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

By what you have stated, it sounds like a lid switch failure. The lid switch has to be closed for the drain and spin cycle on your washer to work. If the lid switch is faulty, it will fill and wash but nothing else.

A quick check you can do is to bypass the lid switch and see if it will drain. If the washer operates, the lid switch needs to be replaced. Here is a video that demonstrates gaining access to and replacing the Lid Switch on a washer that should be similar to yours.

To bypass the lid switch you need to unplug the washer and open the console.

Once you have the console open, locate the connector for the lid switch. Place an insulated jumper wire between the two colored wires (see image below). Not the green it is a ground and will cause a short. After inserting the jumper make sure it will not touch anything metal, plug the washer in. Start the washer in a drain cycle. If the washer drains and spins, you need to replace the lid switch. Do not leave the lid switch bypassed and continue using your washer. This is for testing purposes only.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to purchase the lid switch for your Kenmore model number 11021882001 washer

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance please reply to this post.
