Question and Answers

Q:

The washing machine makes a clunking noise in spin cycle, but the water still drains. 11020712991 Kenmore Washer

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your washer and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 11020712991 and it is possible depending on how loud the noise is that the suspension springs at the base are allowing base to move more than it should during the spin cycle. I recommend removing the cabinet and determine if it is the suspension or perhaps a motor coupler issue. Here is a link that may help with additional troubleshooting. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thanks Joe, much appreciated the lid switch may be the issue, will the washer still function even thou the switch is faulty. I would think the entire washer would even start because of this?

Thank you for your question.

By what you have described, it sounds like a lid switch failure. The lid switch on most models has to be closed for the drain and spin cycle on your washer to work. If the lid switch is faulty, it will fill and wash but nothing else. A quick check you can do is to jump the lid switch and see if it will drain. If the washer operates, the lid switch needs to be replaced.

To jump the lid switch you need to unplug the washer and open the console. I have provided you with the instructions for opening the console below. Once you have the console open, locate the connector for the lid switch. Place an insulated jumper between the two colored wires. Not the green it is a ground and will cause a short. After inserting the jumper make sure it will not touch anything metal, plug the washer in. Start the washer in a drain cycle. If the washer drains and spins, you need to replace the lid switch. Do not leave the jumper in while you are waiting for the part. The jumper is only of the test.

To you replace the lid switch you have to remove the cabinet of the washer. The instructions for that are also in the image below. Once the cabinet is removed you can take the screws out securing the lid switch and remove the harness from the clips along the underside of the cabinet. Then reinstall the lid switch in the reverse order. click here to watch video.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply below with the model number and more details if you need further assistance. Here is a link to order any parts you need. www.SearsPartsDirect.com
