Q:

What is the black wire with the white tip located near the starter button on my snow blower?

A:

The wire on your snow thrower is there to power a light if you add one to the snow thrower. The wire is a tap off the alternator on the engine and puts out 12 volts dc when the engine is running.

Ron, I am sorry it has taken so long to answer your question. I tried to look up the stock number you have submitted but nothing came up for me. If the blower is this year's blower, it will only have an alternator if your model has a headlight. If your model has a head light, you will need a volt ohmmeter to check the output. Turn the meter to check AC volts and disconnect the wire going to the headlight. Next, connect one-meter lead to the wire coming from the engine. Then place the other lead against the engine block. Once you have the leads in place start the engine and check the voltage. You should have a reading of around 18 volts. If you do not have this reading, the alternator is likely defective. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark.

Mark, If it had a headlight I wouldn't have an issue. I bought the unit - without a headlight, because it was supposed to have an alternator that I could use to hook up the headlight sold by the actual manufacturer. Sears actually sells the light noting that it is usable on Craftsman blowers. So what you found is that this $1099 (list price) Sears Craftsman snow blower is too cheaply made to have an alternator. Well, I can't blame you for Sears cheaping out on such an expensive (to buy) model. I do wonder if Sears understands that continuously cheaping out on their customers every way that they can is a big part of why we customers are shifting our purchases to other vendors (like HD, Lowes, Costco, BJ's, Amazon, buy.com and others. If Sears keeps this up they will cheap their way out of business.

Ron, I have messed with the model number a little. I think you have the 88691. If you have this model, the unit will have an alternator. If you have the 886911, it does not have an alternator. If you could reply below with the complete model number off the snow blower, I will be happy to make sure.

Mark, while the printed operator's manual that came with it says 247-886911, and in the manual that comes up on this site based on the item number on sears.com, it comes up as 247-88691. However, on the blower it says 247-886912 - and of course it has its own manual. What gets me upset about this is that the phone sales person at sears parts direct said that the mtd light kit would work just fine on it. And nowhere in the description for the light does it say that the craftsman blowers it would work on are only ones equipped with an alternator. So, assuming that the 886912 has no alternator, what could we use as an alternate power source? As Sears used to acknowledge, these blowers are often used at night. In the dark.

Ron, Thank you for adding the model number off the blower. I looked up the model number and this model does not have an alternator. Up until last year, all snow blowers had alternators on the engine. Even if the snow blower did not come with a light one could be added. Then last year the manufacturer decided to only add the alternator if the unit has a light. I am sorry the parts associate misinformed you about the light. With your permission, I will be happy to send your contact information to our customer service team. They will be able to assist in correcting this for you. Please let me know if you want me to do this. Thank you for using Manage My Life! Mark T.

Mark, First, thanks for the update, and YES, I'd like to know how to contact customer service. But I'd also love to know what Sears and MTD are thinking. These blowers are used during storms, often in the dark, and removing the lights, let alone the option to add a light, is beyond absurd. I am wondering; can you think of any reasonable way to add a light based on a rechargable battery? It would need to be LED based to make it viable. Thanks, Ron

To anyone; I'd still like to have some way of telling MTD and Sears what I think of selling an expensive thrower that operates at night without even provision for a headlight (even if battery powered). But right now, I want to be prepared for winter and I'd like to know the part number and order info for shear pins, plus any thoughts on my first start-up and use.

Q:

Part no. or model no. for tote tray of 6 drawer chest #70665760 706657760 Craftsman Tool chest

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
I am sorry to hear about the stolen tote tray, I know how frustrating that is to have occur.
Based upon the model number for the tool chest, I don't see that a tote tray is listed within the parts. Due to the age of the unit, we no longer have access to the literature to see if the tote tray was offered as an accessory, which will usually provide the part or accessory number for it.
I did some research based upon some comparable models and found a tote tray that was used on quite a few of our 6 drawer tool chests. The part number for the tote is A4828-DCG. The only issue is that I could not identify the specs for it, so I cannot guarantee it's an identical match.
This is the closest match I could find based upon the model of the tool chest provided. For convenience, I have included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the SearsParts site to view and purchase it if it looks to be what you need. Hope this helps.

Hi Josh_S, I have the original brochure which showed the 6-DRAWER CHEST model 65756 and it shows that the chest came with a tote tray and it is shown in the picture of the chest, however it is too small to see any details. On the Sears.com web site on page 8 it lists eight tote trays with no dimensions varying in price from $23.49 to $10.99. The one you suggest I try has an Item number SPA8s6660376808 and a part number A4828-DCG listed at $21.24 so I will order this and see if it fits. Jerry L. Gaines jlg1086@aol.com

Thank you for your question on the vacuum cleaner running and not shutting off unless you unplug from the wall of unplug the power mate.

If you cannot shut the vacuum off with out unplugging it from the wall then the PCB board is the problem.

You will need to access the inside of the motor canopy in order to replace the board.

Hi Sam, I just received the part I was told to order..KC47VBZPZ000, PCB Light..What I received was the complete wand..And that didn't fix the problem. The problem has to be in the Power Mate itself..You said it was PCB Board inside of the motor canopy..is that the same thing as PCB light?? Where is the motor canopy?? Now I have to figure out how to return this part that cost me $50.33..shipping was $10.99..Sears Parts Direct is saying they won't refund shipping cost to me..Thats just not right when I was told it was the part I needed.. Please let me know where the motor canopy is.. Thanks, Linda

the vacuum motor on mine runs 1/2 speed with the switch off i replaced a triac mounted in the handle this fixed the problem for a short period. the triac was shorted i assumed the lack of thermal compound between the heatsink and the triac was the cause.
