Q:

Drain freezing over in Kenmore Refrigerator 10677992791 10677992791

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your fridge and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 10677992791 and the drain tube being clog with ice or debris is a common issue for refrigerators. You do from time to time have to clear it out. To clean the drain, remove everything out of the freezer so the back panel can be removed. With the panel out, you can use a hair dryer to remove the ice, just be careful not to get it too hot. With the ice removed under the evaporator, you will be able to see the drain hole. Hot water will be needed to clear the drain hole. Keep working the hot water into the hole and wiping the excess water. This can take quite a while, depending on how deep the ice is. This will need to be done until you get a good water flow down to the bottom drain pan. With the drain system clear, water should stop leaking in the refrigerator. If the drain constantly freezes up after this you can purchase a heating probe for the drain. The heat probe transfers some heat from the heating element to the drain, which will help prevent it from icing up. The heat probe kit is part number 819043. The kit will come with installation instructions. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Thank You for using ManageMyLife.com. I have pulled up the parts in question, and key number 23 on the Refrigerator door schematic, Door Shelf Trim, is a different part number than key 17 on the Freezer door schematic, Door Shelf Trim. The part number for 23 is 2159312 and 17 is 2157313.

The Door Shelf Trims for the freezer door will be the exact same, so it would call for two of the 17's. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete the repair. Just click the blue link below to be taken to the page.
