Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the refrigerator. If there was a thick frost accumulation on the back wall in the freezer, it will cause a cooling problem. By turning the unit off and allowing the frost to thaw, it should start cooling again for a few days, if the fan motor is running, until the frost builds back up. This type of problem indicates a failure in the defrost system. It could be caused by the defrost control board (ADC), an open element or the defrost thermostat.

If the frost starts to accumulate again, a good check you can make will be to, manually advance it into a defrost cycle. This is done by doing the following in the order listed:

  1. Unplug the power cord
  2. Turn the thermostat off and leave it off
  3. Reconnect the power cord
After a few minutes, open the freezer door and if you can hear a sizzling sound it means the heating element and thermostat are both ok. In this case, the ADC board # 2304099 would need to be replaced. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why is the icemaker not working on my Kenmore refrigerator?

A:

What I would suspect on something like this is a frozen fill tube. If the fill tube is frozen, no water can travel up to the icemaker. I would recommend checking the fill tube.
