Q:

water filter not locking in place 10676232401 Kenmore Top mount refrigerator

A:

Thank you for your question in regards to your refrigerator model 10676232401. I apologize you are having a problem. I will be glad to assist you with this.

I have researched your model and found no known issues with the filter popping out as you describe. Because this is not the first filter you had do this, I suspect the issue is in the housing the filter fits into. I suggest looking closely at the housing for tiny cracks that may be causing the issue. When the filter locks in, the little tips grab on. Something is preventing this from happening.  I will attach a link to click here using your model so you can view the parts selection in the housing area. I cannot recommend any modification to the water system.

I hope this helps, if I can be of more assistance reply with added details and I will be happy to respond. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this problem, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services

A:

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about this icing condition. The information you received from Joseph is very good but this appears to be a defrost problem. A manual defrost test, may help determine what the problem is. To place this unit into a defrost cycle, the following must be done, in the order listed.

  1. Unplug the power cord
  2. Turn the thermostat off and leave it off
  3. Reconnect the power cord
You should hear a click and in a few minutes, if you can hear a hissing or popping sound inside the freezer, it means the heating element is on. This will indicate the defrost control board # 2304099 is not advancing and will need to be replaced. If nothing happens, some voltage and resistance checks will need to be made. A technician may be needed to make these checks. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.
