If the compressor is trying to start then the problem might be with the pressures in the system itself.

When the refrigerator shuts off the pressures should equalize quickly. Sometimes there is a restriction in the system and the pressures do not equalize fast enough so when the compressor tries to start it can't against the pressure and clicks off. After a few more minutes the pressure my equalize and it will start.

The 5 and 6 amps sound okay if these readings are while the refrigerator is running.

Make sure the refrigerator is not plugged into a long extension cord. Low voltage might cause the compressor to act like this.

I would suggest a technician check and repair this problem.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
