Question and Answers

Q:

Top-mount refrigerator...can't find the controls for the Freezer 10673842301

A:

Thank You for contacting ManageMyLife.com

I understand your confusion when searching for the temperature controls for the freezer. Based on the model number you have provided I'm showing there is only one control for both fridge and freezer section. If the fridge section is still at the proper temperature then there is something else wrong. Possible a defrost problem or the thermostat itself has malfunctioned. Please let me know what you find so I can assist you further.

I look forward to working with you.
Thanks for using ManageMyLife.com

I agree with your testing. It sounds like the drive gears inside the defrost timer have stripped. You need to replace the defrost timer. Usually the refrigerator and freezer will work about 5-7 days with the defrost timer not working. After that period the frost will block the evaporator coil and cut down on the airflow to the refrigerator and freezer.

The part number of the defrost timer is 482493 and the cost is $32.54.

Replaced timer. Unit tries for a little while but never cools unit completely. Lowest temperature achieved is 45 degrees in the freezer and about 50 in the refrigerator. The evaporator coil frosts for about 2 inches. After about 5 minutes the frost starts to recede and unit stops cooling. On one end of the evaporator coil is something wrapped with a black plastic cover and some type of insulation. Going in on the evaporator side the tube is about 1/4 inch in diameter. Coming out on the other side and going into the back wall of the freezer cabinet is a really small tube less than 1/8 inch diameter. Is this an expansion valve? I have not found this part on the parts list or drawings.
