Q:

Where is the drain tube on my Kenmore refrigerator?

A:

In order to access the defrost drain pan you will need to remove the rear panel in the freezer. The drain pan sits below the evaporator so when the unit goes into defrost the water drips off the evaporator & goes down the drain on the drain pan. Be sure to disconnect electrical power before attempting any repairs. You can use a couple glasses of hot water or a hair dryer to defrost the drain pan.

How do you defrost the water in the drain TUBING if it is Frozen? I have used a coat hanger to chip away at the ice about 1 inch but to no avail! I have tried hot water but could not break through the ice not knowing how far down the tubing is frozen? Any suggestions please.

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model 106.72852101; sorry you are having a problem.Based on the description you have provided I think there may be a defrost system failure. Your refrigerator has three main components that provide self-defrosting, defrost timer, defrost by-meta and defrost heater.  The timer is located in the control housing by the cold controls and the other two are on the evaporator coil. There of course could be other reasons that are causing the non-cooling, freezer fan not running, sealed system issues, or even door gaskets not sealing properly.Try this easy process to help determine if the defrost system has failed. Remove the food and unplug the refrigerator, open doors and allow it to be off for about 12 hours,( be prepared to deal with water leaking from bottom). After the defrosting manually plug the unit back in and if it cools properly the problem would be in the defrost system and testing will need to be done to determine exact component failure. Try this and reply with details and I will be happy to respond with more assistance. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.
