Question and Answers

how to access the drain tube in my freezer Freezer Model # 106724240.

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

The drain tube will be behind the evaporator cover. Empty all the contents from the freezer and disconnect the power supply. You will need to remove the screws holding the evaporator cover into place, and remove it.

Below the evaporator will be the drain trough. It will probably be full of ice. You can use a turkey baster and put hot water on it to melt the ice. Continue this until the ice has been fully melted and water goes through the tube into the drain pan. At this point, the unit should resume normal operation, but if the issue persists, there may be a defrost issue.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I looked through the parts images but I don't see the black box that you are describing. That black box could be the cover over the defrost timer.

Standing ice in the bottom of the freezer could be caused by a clogged defrost drain tube. Unplug the freezer and pull the evaporator panel out of the inside of the freezer cabinet. Check for a freeze plug or clog in the defrost drain tube under the evaporator. If you clear a clog in that drain tube, then you will likely fix your problem.

Let us know if you need more help with this problem.

Thanks for choosing Sears PartsDirect.

Freezer works, but circulator fan is always on, ice on bottom 106724240 Kenmore Coldspot freezer

Thank you for choosing I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand the frustration with having an issue with you unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

With a lot of models the fan motor will run constantly to keep the air circulating. When frost forms next to the door, it indicates an air leak. Checking the gaskets will give you your answer of an air leak.

Place a dollar bill in between door gaskets and freezer. Once dollar is in place, pull it out. If it comes out easily then gasket need to be replaced. I’m showing the door gasket part number is 848395.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663.

If you have any further questions or concerns, you will have to post a new question. Again, thank you for choosing
