Q:

Water filter for kenmore elite fridge 106.72299201 (fridge); 978488 (filter)

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 106.72299201 and that piece is for sediment. The strainer will need to be back flushed or replaced. There is also a inline water that can be used instead of the strainer. You will need to purchase the water tubing for the kit.

Q:

Ice maker

A:

I can understand your disappointment in getting hollow, useless ice cubes. There are several aspects you might consider. Is the refrigerator level? This may have an impact on the quality of ice you get. Another very important concept would be that the sections are all full. If the mold closest to the front of the ice maker is under filling, it will cause the ice maker to cycle before the ice is frozen solid. I have provided a link below that will give an excellent review and provide more detail on the topic. I did locate a link that will discuss your situation in greater detail. Though this link discusses a different model number, the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and instruction. I hope this link will help guide you as to what might be wrong with your ice maker and have a nice day.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your ice maker. When the icemaker makes hollow cubes, it can be caused by 2 things. Either the water valve is not filling the ice mold enough, or the thermostat inside the icemaker is starting the harvest cycle before the cubes are fully frozen. To test the fill start the icemaker through the harvest cycle and after it fills check the water level in the first mold behind the motor. All the molds should have the same amount of water in them. If the first mold has a smaller amount of water, try adjusting the fill time and if that doesn't help, replace the water valve. If the water level is normal, replace the icemaker assembly. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

What is causing water to pour out of the freezer after connecting the water supply to the refrigerator?

A:

Most likely you have a failed water inlet valve if the water supply was connected correctly. If the copper water supply line is connected to the ice maker water valve (key#10) and not the plastic water line (key#7) that is routed up the back of the refrigerator and into the freezer, the likely failure is the water inlet valve and not the ice maker. If the plumber connected the copper water supply to the plastic water line instead of the water inlet valve it will flood the freezer when the water is turned on. If the ice maker was left ON with out having the water supply connected may have caused the ice maker water valve to have failed open.

To verify if the failure is the water inlet valve or the ice maker, disconnect the wire harness plug from the water inlet valve. If the water continues to flow into the ice maker replace the water inlet valve (key#10). Replacing the water valve is a simple procedure that could be performed by you. It would require disconnecting the copper water supply, the plastic water line and the wire harness plug. Remove the water valve mounting screw securing the water valve and reverse the procedure to install the new water inlet valve (Part#2315508).

If more information is needed resubmit your question with the model number and details.
