Question and Answers

Q:

Intermittent cooling. Fridge and freezer. Turn off therm and on and cools for a short time. 10671203100 Kenmore Top mount refrigerator

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the intermittent temperatures with the unit. I know how frustrating that is.

Based upon the symptoms and having to adjust the thermostat(s) to get it to cool again for a short time; I suspect that one of the thermostats will need replacement. It will likely be the freezer thermostat, but we would recommend having them tested first to be sure. The freezer thermostat is 2204991, and the refrigerator is 2204984.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

 Hi,

Thanks for contacting  ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance.

The problem could be the thermostat the controlled the compressor. The condenser fan motor located beside the compressor is what you could hear running but if the compressor is not running there will be no cooling.  The thermostat is located inside the panel where the refrigerator cold knob is and it is hooked to the thermostat.   This thermostat when closed provided the path for the current to flow to the compressor.

You could check the orange wire to the brown wire and if the reading is 120 volts AC the thermostat would need to be replaced.

If you are not comfortable working with live electricity I recommend you call a Sears Home Services  technician.

NOTE:  Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service.

Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Bill
