Q:

Refrigerator not cooling freezer works 10661282100 Kenmore Top mount refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help you. Upon researching model 10661282100 there is a diffuser that opens or closes to let more air in from freezer. It could be stuck where it doesn't want to open or close. It could be the thermostat for the fridge. The motor you are referring to can be going out if you hear it squeaking.
I linked the diagram below. Number 10 is fan. Number 24 is diffuser. Number 13 is thermastat.

If you have any further questions please re-post. Thank you for choosing Sears. Have a great day.

My refrigerator runs about 8 hours then stops and won't start again by itself. I open the refrigerator door for about 5 minutes to see if the thermostat kicks in. It's still off. Then I try to set the thermostat to different setting. It's still also off. Then I knock on the panel where it houses the thermostat and the control board. It starts running again. I check for loose parts but I found nothing out of ordinary. I have to knock on the panel to get it running. My refrigerator is cooling properly. It's still making ice.

Hi,

Thank you for your question. It is concerning when your appliance is not functioning correctly.

If the panel you at knocking on is the panel mounted to the top of the refrigerator, that is where the defrost control board is located. It has a relay mounted on it and, seems to be freezing up in the defrost portion of the cycle. If this is the case, here is the link to the part, Kenmore Refrigerator Model 10661282100 control .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this entry below.
Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I replaced the control board with a new one as you suggested and the problem is still there. I still have to knock on the thermostat housing to start it. The thermostat housing is located to the top of the refrigerator, above the food area. The control board is a solid state part which has no moving components; so how can a relay is freezing up on it? Is it a different part in that thermostat housing?

The control board has a small black box that are the relays mounted to the board. Well you said you knock on the panel now you knock on the thermostat. I recommend you get a meter and check the voltage from the board to the meter. I will send you a diagram and I suggest you check voltage from the board to the thermostat , b4 you replace anything. You could have a faulty board, still, a faulty thermostat or a faulty compressor. Send me the voltage reading and I will suggest what to replace.

sorry that I could not do what you suggested because I do not have a meter. Instead, I replaced the thermostat (cold control) with a new one. Now it is cooling properly in the food area and in the freezer and cycling on and off. But instead of cycling once every 8 hours. It cycles once every 30 minutes. It runs for 30 minutes and off for 20 minutes. Is it normal for it to do so or my thermostat is faulty? I also used the new electronic control board.

When you say cycling do you mean it is going into defrost every 30 minutes or the compressor is shutting off every 30 minutes and coming on after 20 minutes? Is the refrigerator in a conditioned location?

I do not know if it went into the defrost mode or not. I only know that it ran for 30 minutes and stopped for 20 minutes. Then it came on by itself. When it stopped, the fridge was quiet; The compressor fan stopped running. I noticed water in the drain tray. And it sounded like breathing when it stopped. The back of the fridge is positioned about 3 inches from the wall.
