Q:

repair an ice dispenser on a Kenmore Model 1069969803 refrigerator

A:

I can completely understand your financial concern.  I wonder if that auger is freezing up with ice.  You have quite a bit of money already invested so I will forward your question to an expert who will investigate the matter further and get back to you.  You will hear from them within two business days if not sooner.  Until you hear from us, have a nice day.

I pulled the auger bar out and cleaned it. Sears is taking the motor back - really great return experience.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the auger motor. Unfortunately, the model listed is not showing to be a valid model and I'm unable to access any information. Now, a quick check you can make with most models will be to, press the lever in slowly and listen for a clicking sound. If you cannot hear this sound, it will indicate that either the switch has failed or the actuator is not making contact with the switch. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and please recheck to verify the model number and I will be glad to assist you further.

Dewappo, thank you for the model number. If there is no clicking sound, the switch and actuator will need to be checked. To access these parts, first disconnect the power. Now, pull the tray out of the bottom and insert a small screwdriver under the bottom of the cover. Pry the bottom of the cover out and lift upward to free the top tabs. You can now disconnect the wire harness and remove the cover. With the cover off, you will be able to see the switch and bracket it mounts to. Now, activate the lever and see if it makes contact with the switch. If it does press the button down on the switch but there is no clicking sound, the switch # 2162361 will need to be replaced. I hope this will help you.

Thank you for your question. I know it can be disappointing when the ice dispenser stops working. This can be a complicated dispenser to check. If the motor has been replaced and it still won't run, the most likely problem will be with the control board. The board controls the voltage to the motor. To make sure you get the correct board, the part number of the original board will be needed. This board is located behind the unit, next to the compressor. It will be the board with multiple connections. The number will start with FSP. Be sure to disconnect the power first. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Scott-- When I take a meter and measure the connector that pugs into the ice dispenser motor on the door, I see very low voltage. The female connector is 5-prong but I only see two wires going into it so I'm assuming its a 120 v ac motor so I should see 120 on the measurement. The main control board I take it is behind the unit where the compressor is located probably on the bottom? Will the refrigerator run when this board is removed? or can I just get the part number and order a new one and fix at that time?

I removed the back panel to look at the main board. The main board is encased in a plastic enclosure on the lower left side. It look like to see the part number I'd have to remove and take the refrigerator out of service. That being the case it would probably be easier to have a service repair call. Can you please give me an estimate for a service call to repair this issue?

Mark, this board can be complicated to replace and no the unit will not run, if it's removed. I would recommend having a technician make this repair. The board will cost approx. $ 80.00 and I'm listing a number you can call 1-800-469-4663 to get an estimate on the service call and to schedule a tech to come out. I hope this will help you.
