Q:

How to install ice dispencer motor

A:

I can understand how important it is to have the right parts for your engine. Yes, there should be a gasket on the valve cover. This is what creates a tight seal on this part. However, we don' have a part number for it. This is because you can make one to fit. This is the best way to get what you need. If you don't know how to do this, just click on this link to view a video on it: Make Gaskets for Small Engines. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on the link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

I am so soory about the confusion. I did not mean for you to get this answer. I did find the information that you need to replace the ice dispenser motor. Just follow these directions. Disconnect the unit from the electrical supply. To remove the motor: Open the freezer door. Remove the ice container from the freezer door. Remove the two screws from the motor housing cover and remove the cover. Disconnect the harness connector from the motor terminals. Remove the four screws from the motor bracket and allow the motor to drop down. Pull the hex drive shaft out of the motor.

To reinstall the motor: Remove the two screws from the hex drive shaft coupling holder and remove the coupling assembly. Install the hex drive shaft in the motor as far as it will go. Slide the new motor assembly back into place in the freezer door and mount it with the four screws you removed earlier. Make sure that the top of the hex drive shaft, spring, and pin are through the hole in the ice container plate. NOTE: On 2002, and later models, the pin is not used. Plug the harness connector into the motor. NOTE: The connector is designed to fit only one way on the motor terminals. Position the motor housing cover so that the raised center faces the motor, and mount it in place with the two screws you removed earlier. Make sure that the spring and pin are in the center hole of the hex drive shaft, and that the bearing and seal are properly positioned on the coupling, as shown. Position the coupling assembly over the spring-loaded pin, then push down on the coupling and align it with the top of the hex drive shaft. Secure the coupling assembly with the two screws you removed earlier. Replace the ice container on the freezer door plate. NOTE: The coupling in the ice container does not have to align with the coupling on the end of the hex drive shaft when the ice container is installed. They will engage as soon as the ice dispenser is activated. At that time, the motor will turn, and the spring-loaded coupling on the end of the hex drive shaft will pop up and engage the ice container coupling (you will hear a snap when the coupling pops up and engages). The image will provide pictures on how to so this as well. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hello AnneJ, Thank You for these updated instructions. I now have an additional problem. I can not remove the ice dispenser from the door. I pushed the button on the side of the dispenser inward, but the dispenser does not lift off. It seems loose, but not willing to come apart. The reason for changing this motor was because the entire mechanism froze over and would not allow the dispenser to spin. I used hot water to melt the ice. Any suggestions on how to get the dispenser off?

It is possible that even with the hot water you were not able to get all of the ice out from under the bin. Use a hair dryer on low to melt the ice. Have someone point the hair dryer under the bin, while you gentely wiggle the bin out of the door. Also turn the auger inside the ice bin by hand. It is possible that it could be caught on something. This should release it. If you can not get the bin to lift out, then you have a problem with the latch assembly. The only way to remove it, would be to break the latch. Then you would need to order a new one. I would suggest you leave this for a last resort.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with your icemaker. Without the model number, I will only be able to provide some general information. From the information listed, this must be an in the door icemaker. By this I mean the bucket is in the door. With this type of icemaker, if the red led light is not on, it will indicate the optic boards have failed. The boards control the icemaker, so if the boards fail, the icemaker will not work either. In this case, the boards will need to be replaced. For more specific information, reply to this thread with the complete model and serial number and I will be glad to assist you further. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
