Gaining access to some components can sometimes be a little tricky. The information you have already received is correct. I'm also sending you a picture with instructions. However, if you are jumping the door switch and the dispenser works, the problem is with the switch. The switch # 4387911 will need to be replaced. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . I can understand your concern. The pictures for these fittings and information you have received is correct. Sometimes when the fittings on the water filter housing leak, the hoses can be removed, cut a 1/2" off the end and reinsert them. If the fittings still leak, then the filter housing will need to be replaced. When replacing the housing, I recommend cutting a 1/2" off the end of the existing water lines. I hope this helps you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

How do I know if the problem is a valve or water filter for a dispenser leak?

A:

No, there is not a part in the valve that can be examined. Although it could be a valve problem, this problem is normally associated with air in the line or in the water.

A good way to determine if air is in the line or in the water, is to put some water in a clear glass and then watch it for a couple of minutes. If you see air bubbles in the water, then the air is mixed in with the water supply and you will need to have the water company take care of this.

If there are no bubbles, air is in the line. To help eliminate this type of leak, there is an updated water line that fits in the door. This water line # 8201537 is available at www.searspartsdirect.com .
